{"id":586,"date":"2010-08-18T15:57:45","date_gmt":"2010-08-18T21:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wis-injury.com\/blog\/?p=586"},"modified":"2010-08-18T15:57:45","modified_gmt":"2010-08-18T21:57:45","slug":"wisconsin-aclu-reach-settlement-on-female-prisoner-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wis-injury.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/wisconsin-aclu-reach-settlement-on-female-prisoner-suit.html","title":{"rendered":"Wisconsin, ACLU Reach Settlement On Female Prisoner Suit"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>In a settlement of a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union, Wisconsin must ante up and foot the bill to offer female prisoners the same type of health care and mental health services that men receive, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/news\/wisconsin\/101013499.html\">http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/news\/wisconsin\/101013499.html<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>The\u00a0case will cost Wisconsin &#8220;hundreds of thousands of dollars,&#8221; according to the newspaper. The settlement of the federal litigation, filed by the ACLU against the state Department of Corrections,\u00a0is expected to be filed Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 700 women prisoners doing time at the the Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac.<\/p>\r\n<p>Under the settlement, the prison will have a full-time family practice doctor on staff at $195,000 a year. Currently, the prison only has a part-time physician, according to the Journal Sentinel.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0The corrections department will also have to bring in a consultant to\u00a0recommend improvements\u00a0to the prison&#8217;s health care and psychiatric\u00a0services.
