Last Wednesday\u00a0was the first time the state has offered any insight as to how much money the new federal legislation will save for it.<\/p>\r\n<p>Wisconsin&#8217;s state health insurance programs, including BadgerCare Plus,\u00a0are rather generous, offering broader coverage\u00a0than other states.\u00a0That&#8217;s one reason why the state has one of the lowest rates of uninsured people in the nation, according to\u00a0the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.<\/p>\r\n<p>And under Obama&#8217;s overhaul of the nation&#8217;s health care law, a larger part of\u00a0 the cost of Wisconsin&#8217;s\u00a0 insurance\u00a0programs will now be paid by the federal government.<\/p>\r\n<p>The new federal legislation\u00a0plans to increase the numbers of those\u00a0with health-insurance coverage by\u00a0expanding Medicaid programs\u00a0and subsidizing insurance for those with low- to middle-class salaries whos don&#8217;t get health insurance through an employer.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0Wisconsin released\u00a0its estimates in the wake of a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation,\u00a0which projected\u00a0how federal health care reform was going to impact states by raising their costs.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>State\u00a0officials wanted to make it clear that regarding\u00a0Wisconsin,\u00a0the Kaiser report didn&#8217;t factor in\u00a0the funds the state will save because it currently is offering health-insurance coverage for many low-income residents.<\/p>\r\n<p>Wisconsin&#8217;s BadgerCare Plus program is providing health insurance to 769,525 low-income residents, and to 188,000 elderly residents through Medicaid.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Obama&#8217;s health care reform will shave $745 million to $980 million from Wisconsin&#8217;s costs, according to estimates that the state issued last week. http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/business\/94933334.html The Badger\u00a0State will benefit because the federal government will soon be paying a much larger share of the cost of insuring residents\u00a0that have low incomes.
